A True Italian Aperitivo Isn’t Complete Without the Food!

Aperitivo hour is a time-honoured art in Italy, taking place on beautiful terraces overlooking the ocean, in bustling city centre bars and of course in the comfort of your own home. Aperitivo Hour is all about easing out of the day and opening up the palate for dinner. The idea is to serve small drinks and snacks that stimulate your appetite. Aperitivo is the best part of the day, where friends and family gather and unwind over fabulous drinks and light bites before heading off to dinner.

The most special thing about Aperitivo though, is that it can be experienced and replicated anywhere in the world with the right food and drink pairings. Combine a intense Negroni, like our Primo Negroni, with a few simple dishes and we guarantee you’ll be known to your friends as the master of the Aperitivo.

It must be said that there are plenty of other cocktails you can enjoy, but the Negroni is the King of Aperitivo. Traditionally made with gin, sweet vermouth and bitter aperitif liqueur, the Negroni is a simple drink, but it’s crucial that it’s made with equal parts of the three ingredients for an authentic Italian Negroni.

Our Primo Negroni is perfectly balanced each and every time. All you have to do is pour over ice into a rock glass, garnish with an orange wedge and relax. Simplicity is the key to a successful aperitivo, and the food pairings should be no different.

An Epic Charcuterie Board

Take a beautiful wooden board and select a variety of cured meats and artisan bread. We recommend some Prosciutto di Parma, Coppa, a dry-cured meat and Bresaola, an air-dried, salted and aged meat. Combine all of these elements with your Negroni and you will have just the right amount of complexity and bitterness from your drink to offset the salty deliciousness of the meats.

A Classic Cheese Board

The cheese board is the most simple and arguably the tastiest combination for Aperitivo. Grab a nice blue cheese like gorgonzola, a tasty piece of Parmesan and a creamy burrata. Be sure to include some fresh fruit on the board, which will create a beautiful combination of flavours with the botanicals of Primo Negroni.

A Simple Bruschetta

Bruschetta is a perfect Aperitivo snack. Slice a loaf of bread, brush on a little extra virgin olive oil and top with two fundamental Italian staples: tomato and basil. Add a fresh Mozzarella for some extra romance.

Simple but sophisticated the bruschetta is a perfect aperitivo addition.

Zesty Olives

Toss some Nocellara olives with a little citrus zest and herbs, serve in a beautiful bowl to please your palate one after the other.

In true italian style, it’s all about the people around you who make the Aperitivo moments perfect and timeless.

Salute!
